Tempo Livre promotes cycle of debates and a conference on the future of sport in Portugal

“Sport: What Future?” is the central theme of a cycle of online debates promoted by the Center for Sport Studies of the Tempo Livre, which will take place between March 18 and 30, at 21 pm. The objective of the initiative is to discuss the challenges, problems and expectations that the future holds for sport, in clubs, at school, in health and in the country.

More than a year has passed since the beginning of a global pandemic, and when it begins to glimpse its end, due to the ongoing vaccination and community immunization process, the Tempo Livre launches a challenge to sports leaders, policy makers, pedagogues, teachers and physical education technicians so that together they reflect on what the future holds for us in the sports sector.

The negative impact that has resulted for sport and for the physical activity of the confinement to which the country has been obliged reveals unmistakable data and overwhelming numbers that will deserve particular attention in this cycle of debates.

In the first session (March 18) Ricardo Costa Ricardo Costa (Sport Councilor of the Guimarães City Council), Miguel Laranjeiro (President of the Handball Federation of Portugal), Pedro Dias (Director of the Portuguese Football Federation) and Miguel Pinto Lisboa ( President of Vitória SC) will discuss the future of sport in clubs, in moderation by Luis Rodrigues (President of Guimagym).

On March 23 the debate will take place on the future of sport in schools, with Adelina Pinto, Vitor Pardal (National Coordinator of UAARE, High Performance Support Units) meeting at the virtual table at the City Council of Guimarães. at the School), Carlos Neto, professor at FMH-UL (Faculty of Human Motricity at the University of Lisbon), moderated by Sérgio Abreu, Coordinator of Sports Services at Tempo Livre.

The third session (March 25) is dedicated to the future of sport in health and will bring together Bruno Avelar (team member of the National Plan for the Promotion of Physical Activity of the General Directorate of Health), Patrícia Ferreira (Coordinator of the Network's Psychologists Team) of Guimarães Social Emergency Support) and the doctor and Olympic athlete Rui Bragança. The session will be moderated by José Martins, from the Center for Sport Studies in Guimarães.

This cycle of debates ends on March 30 with a final conference on the theme “The Future of Sport in Portugal” and which will be attended by the Secretary of State for Sport, João Paulo Rebelo and the president of APOGESD - Associação Portuguese Sport Management, Fernando Parente. The President of the Tempo Livre, Amadeu Portilha, will moderate the conference that will be broadcast live on the Facebook page of Tempo Livre.

Registration for the sessions is free, but mandatory and limited to 100 people per session. Interested parties must fill out a form available on the website of the Tempo Livre.
